|MenEngage to co-host events at the International AIDS Society Conference in Washington DC, July 22-27, 2012|
The MenEngage Alliance will co-host the Gender and HIV satellite discussion at the 29th International AIDS Conference in Washington DC alongside IDS, Instituto Promundo and Sonke Gender Justice Network.
This satellite will present up-to-date evidence, emerging research and innovative action on engaging men and boys in prevention and care. It will promote a discussion about implications for future gender and HIV work with men and boys, and priority strategies for resolving tensions in the field.
With a unique and diverse set of speakers from all main regions, we will address four topics:
1) How do we understand/frame men in HIV work?
A second panel discussion on Thursday July 26th, 5:00-7:00PM, also co-hosted by MenEngage alongside USAID, Instituto Promundo and Sonke Gender Justice Network, focuses on increasing men's low utilisation of HIV testing and treatment services:
“Efforts to understand men’s health-seeking behaviour are poorly understood in the AIDS epidemic, and encouraging men to get tested and into treatment is a major challenge, but one that is poorly recognised. Addressing these issues effectively means moving beyond laying blame, and starting to develop interventions to encourage uptake of prevention, testing, and treatment for men—for everyone’s sake."
